Excel Sheet For The Design of Rectangular Beam

Dear viewers, today I have come up with a very useful and informative tutorial especially for Civil Engineers. As we all know that beam is an integral part of a civil engineering structure like a building which may be a home, an office, shopping mall, commercial plaza, hospital, schools etc. Beams take the load of the slab and the structure built over the ground floor or basement and transfer that load to the columns which subsequently transfer whole of the load to the foundation of the structure.

Before starting the design of a beam, you must know the following data you need to input. Find out the factored load.

Find out the moment considering your case. A list of formulas is introduced for different conditions of location of the beam. However we are designing a simply supported beam.

 Now find out the reinforcement ratio. For tension controlled failure we use ɸ (phi) = 0.9

 Select the reinforcement accordingly.

At the end check your section against minimum reinforcement ratio for flexure and maximum reinforcement ratio for ϵt=0.005. Check the moment against the design moment. If design moment ɸMn < Mu revise the section with greater dimensions.
